Could physiotherapists implement collaborative tiered services in primary schools to promote children’s physical functioning and health? A Quebec-based feasibility study grounded in an international consensus-based approach

This project consisted of the development of a collaborative tiered school-based physiotherapy model via an international consensus-based approach and determining the feasibility of implementing the developed model in Quebec.

The objectives of this project are to:

  • Identify the guiding principles of a collaborative tiered school-based physiotherapy model
  • Provide some examples of interventions that could be provided in a collaborative tiered school-based physiotherapy model
  • Identify the strengths and  weaknesses of the developed model, as well as the available opportunities to implement it in the current practice, and potential barriers to implementation.
  • Determine the feasibility of implementing a collaborative tiered school-based physiotherapy model in Quebec
  • Assess the satisfaction of children, families, and school-based stakeholders with the collaborative tiered school-based physiotherapy model

This project will be completed in three stages:

  • Stage 1: We will identify the core attributes (guiding principles) of the model and will determine some exemples of tiered physiotherapy interventions via a consus-based consultation of international experts.
  • Stage 2: We will conduct focus group discussions with international experts in school-based physiotherapy to analyze the model using an approach that aims to identify Strenghts, Weaknessess, Opportunities and Threats.
  • Stage 3: We will determine the feasibility of implementing the model in one primary school in Quebec using an experimental study design.
The recruitment of school-based physiotherapy experts is complete for this project. Thank you to all the participants.
